Description

In the English language, there are five vowels (a, o, u, i, e) and sometimes y, and 21 consonants, while there are 18 different vowel sounds and 24 consonant sounds.

 

Short vowels ( e, æ, ʌ, ʊ, ɒ, ə) (mentioned in Unit One)

Long vowels: vowel sounds whose pronunciations are the same as their letter names. For example, the long U sound is pronounced like “yoo”. There are five long vowels: long a, long e, long i, long o, and long u.
