Wh– questions are called that because they begin with Wh– words as shown on the right. The answer to Wh– questions is usually a sentence; you cannot answer these questions with “yes” or “no”.

Rule: Wh– word+ auxiliary+ subject+ main verb+ compliment.

OR: Wh– word+ verb + subject + compliment.

Examples:

1. How are you?

- I am fine, thanks.

2. Where do you work?

- I work at the Central Hospital.

3. When do you go to the gym?

- at 6 p.m
