An Integrated Skills Course for (EAP) English for Academic Purposes
Remedial English: The course is a compulsory
service course offered for first year students. It is a prerequisite for E1 and
it focuses mainly on the language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading
and writing. The course is intended to equip the students with basic skills
necessary for successful communication in both oral and written forms of the
language. In addition to grammar and how to use vocabulary in a meaningful
context.The primary objective is to prepare students for the rigorous demands of
future advanced academic programs. Utilizing the Unlock Second
Edition series, the curriculum is built around six thematic
units—People, Seasons, Lifestyles , Jobs, Homes and buildings, Food and culture
—selected for their relevance in building essential vocabulary and conceptual
understanding.
This course focuses on developing foundational reading, writing, and critical thinking skills at the CEFR A2 level. Utilising the 'Cambridge Unlock Level 2' textbook, students will engage with various academic topics, enhance their vocabulary, and learn to write structured paragraphs and descriptive texts. The course emphasises building confidence in academic English and preparing students for higher-order thinking.
