• Module 6. Plant Hormones

The students will be introduced in depth to the five main plant hormones; growth promoters: auxin, gibberellins, cytokinin, and growth inhibitors: ethylene, and abscisic acid (ABA).

For each of these hormones the following topics will be addressed:

    - General chemical structure of the natural hormones, other synthetic analogs and inhibitors.

    - The various physiological effects of each hormone, its uses and applications in agriculture.

    - Hormone metabolism (biosynthesis, degradation, conjugation).

    - Hormone transport, sensing (receptors) and signal transduction, hormone related gene expression and its relation to typical hormone mediated physiological processes.
